About this picture
Location of the Stetzsch district in Dresden

Stetzsch is a district of the Saxon state capital Dresden . The name is derived from Old Sorbian staja (German: stable, homestead).

geography

Stetzsch lies on the left bank of the Elbe and is six kilometers northwest of the city center, the old town . Neighboring markings are Obergohlis in the northwest, Mobschatz in the southwest, Kemnitz in the south and Kaditz in the east, which is already on the other side of the Elbe . Stetzsch is a district that is counted in its entirety to the statistical district of Briesnitz and thus to the district of Cotta . Within the statistical district, the district forms the statistical district 981 Stetzsch.

The Berlin – Dresden railway line and Bundesstraße 6 run through Stetzsch , which is also used by bus line 75 of the Dresden public transport company . The 300 to 500 meter wide Elbe meadows are in front of the district in the east . The Dresden animal shelter is located near the railway line .

The edge of the Dresden Elbe valley is located on the south-western border in the form of a significant increase in terrain in the direction of Mobschatz . The center of Stetzsch lies at an altitude of 103  m above sea level. NN and was thus until the incorporation of Cossebaudes in 1997, the lowest-lying district of Dresden.

Overall, the Stetzsch district has a fairly loose development, which is mostly located along the Meißner Landstrasse and Flensburger Strasse in the triangle between the railway line, Elbe meadows and the corridor border to Gohlis. In addition to smaller, often single, multi-family houses, it is characterized by allotment gardens , tree nurseries and gardeners.

Stetzsch is located in the fluviatil eroded valley of the Elbe. Directly on the river bank, two elongated standing bodies of water have been preserved, which have been under protection since 1985 as a natural monument ND 16 - Elblachen near Stetzsch . They are considered to be a special retreat for flora and fauna on the banks of the Elbe.

history

The first documented settlement of the Stetzsch area is attributed to the Billendorfer culture , a section of the early Iron Age between 800 and 400 BC. It was proven around 1900 when a large urn grove with pre-Slavic grave goods was discovered on the street Am Urnenfeld, which is now named after it . The Slavs who later settled in the Elbe Valley founded the Platz gassendorf Stetzsch, first mentioned as Steiz in 1266 , which has largely been preserved in its 19th century state and bears the street name Altstetzsch .

Until 1559 the farming village was subordinate to the bishops of Meißen and legally it was part of Briesnitz. After the Reformation it was administered successively by the Saxon authorities Stolpen , Dresden , Meißen and from 1843 again Dresden (from 1875 Amtshauptmannschaft Dresden ). On April 1, 1921, Stetzsch was incorporated into Dresden together with Briesnitz, Kemnitz and Leutewitz .

In Stetzsch agriculture dominated until the 19th century. Between 1568 and 1828 the local farmers had to do labor for the Ostravorwerk . From 1667 the Stetzscher Flur belonged to the hunting area of the respective Saxon electoral prince for about a century , which stretched between Cossebaude and the Zschonergrund . The railway connection that took place in 1875 led to a sharp increase in population. Although Stetzsch is surrounded by high flood protection dams, the place was flooded several times by the Elbe, most recently during the flood of the century in August 2002 .
