About this picture
Location of the Pappritz district in Dresden

Pappritz is a district in the east of the Saxon capital Dresden . It is located in the district of the same name and belongs to the village of Schönfeld-Weißig .

geography

Pappritz is located 8 km east of Dresden city center, the inner old town , on the western edge of the Schönfeld highlands . The village corridor is largely on a flat hillside; the steep drop to the Elbe valley is marked by the Dresden Elbe slopes , which limit the location to the south-west. Other natural boundaries are the deeply cut notch valleys of Helfenberger Grund in the southeast and Wachwitzgrund in the northwest. There are no continuous natural boundaries to the northeast, but areas used for agriculture . Pappritz itself is located at heights of about 200 to 270  m above sea level. NN and thus significantly higher than the valley floor of the Elbe, which runs only about 1 km further south-west .

The original village character of the Pappritz district has changed in favor of a residential suburb. Large parts of the corridor, especially in the south and near the slope, have been built with single or smaller multi-family houses. They are grouped around the village center, in which a total of eight historic farmsteads have been preserved along the Am Dorfteich street , including two and three-sided farms . The village center, like an old well , is a listed building . The oldest farmsteads date from the 16th century; one of the residential stables was built in 1712. A Luther oak planted in 1883 stands in front of the former municipal office . Neighboring districts are the other districts Dresdner Gönnsdorf in the northeast and in the district Helfenberg lying Rockau the southeast. It borders Niederpoyritz in the southwest, Wachwitz in the west and Rochwitz in the northwest , all of which already belong to the Loschwitz district . Pappritz belongs to the statistical district Gönnsdorf / Pappritz .

The most important street from Pappritz is the Straße des Friedens , which as Kreisstraße 6201 coming from Niederpoyritz continues through the center of Pappritz towards Gönnsdorf and Weißig . From it branches off with the Fernsehturmstraße the connection to Oberwachwitz to the Dresden TV tower . This stands at the far western end of the plateau described, which is bordered on three sides by steep slopes and therefore protrudes like a peninsula from the Schönfeld highlands. This also explains the good view over the Saxon capital, which is offered, for example, from the Pappritzer Agneshöhe . This is named after the wife of the painter Woldemar Hottenroth , who lived in Pappritz for many years. In total, there are more than 30 other named streets in Pappritz. Public transport in Pappritz is the bus lines 98A and 98B operated by the transport service provider Müller Busreisen , as well as the line  61 (only line branch of the final stop at the television tower) of the Dresden transport company , which runs further via Blasewitz , along the Great Garden and through Strehlen to Löbtau .

history

"Papperitz" with its neighboring villages on a map from 1821

Pappritz was probably founded more than 1000 years ago by Slavic settlers as a square village and was equipped with a block and striped hallway. The place name is derived from papirzcan (Paprocane), an Old Sorbian word that can be translated as those sitting in the fern ; the root word "paprot" means fern (herb) (cf. paprocie = fern ). Another possible explanation is paprzyca , a Slavic word for part of a millstone .

Pappritz was first mentioned in 1278 as part of the personal name Vlricus de Papirzcan ( Ulrich von Pappritz ). Ten years later it was called Papircen , then in 1378 Papirczan . In the 15th and 16th centuries , the place name developed from Papperczan , Pappertzen and Paperitz to the Germanized form Pappersdorf from 1575. Only then did the current spelling finally change.

In Pappritz there was probably a manor at the time the place was first mentioned in 1278 , which can be inferred from the personal name attested at the time. From 1420 it was subordinate to the Helfenberg manor , whose owners exercised the manorial rule over the villages in the surrounding area. From 1572 until the 19th century it belonged to the Pillnitz manor , whose masters drastically increased the labor service . As a result, the residents of Pappritz complained in writing to Elector Johann Georg I on October 27, 1616 . From the middle to the end of the 17th century , Pappritz was part of the Bünausch estates and in 1694 passed to Elector Johann Georg IV. And thus to the Wettins .

The main source of income for the Pappritz residents was agriculture . The village is and was in the parish and in the school district of Weißig, the next larger town. Only later did the Pappritz children start school in Bühlau . In 1833, Pappritz built his own school, which was replaced by a new building 50 years later. From the 16th century until 1886 there was a Pappritzmühle in Wachwitzgrund , which is now used as a residential building. In 1726 the Pappritzer inn, which Richard Wagner also visited in 1846 , was mentioned for the first time and on March 13, 1765 it was licensed . The village was also known for its rich cherry harvest ; the fruit can also be found in the local coat of arms.

The approximately 149 hectare Pappritzer corridor around 1900 belonged administratively first to the Castrum and later to the office or the Amtshauptmannschaft Dresden . Since it was not very convenient for traffic and only had access to the Elbe Valley through the narrow and steep Helfenberger Grund, Pappritz was relatively insignificant. With the construction of the traffic axis Staffelsteinstrasse - Strasse des Friedens in 1914 the connection improved significantly. The place moved closer to the growing city of Dresden and new housing estates were built. On November 26, 1922, the Pappritz community inaugurated a memorial for the local residents who died in the First World War .

Plans to incorporate Pappritz into Dresden, which were also connected with the location of the village between several districts that were already part of the state capital at that time, existed as early as the late 1940s and were initially rejected. On January 1, 1994, Pappritz merged with other places in the Schönfeld highlands to form the large community of Schönfeld-Weißig, when exactly five years later it was finally incorporated into Dresden . Several new housing estates were built again; the population doubled between 1994 and 1997 alone and is currently around 2,000.

The Pappritz district has recently become famous through a larger meeting of members of the NPD . In August 2006, the editors of the party organ German Voice organized a press festival with several thousand participants, including party leader Udo Voigt . The citizens' initiative Pappritz is colorful was founded to campaign for a ban on such events in Pappritz.
