The Pirnaische suburb is one of the suburbs of the city of Dresden , located in the city's Old Town district in the district Old Town I . The suburb is in front of the inner old town to the east in the direction of Pirna . The Pirnaische Platz at the transition to the inner old town is one of the city's transport hubs. The Johannstadt borders to the east and the Seevorstadt to the southwest . Another traffic junction is located between these three districts, the Straßburger Platz .
In the district there are important schools like the St. Benno-Gymnasium or the Marie-Curie-Gymnasium . The Schilling Museum stood on Pillnitzer Strasse until it was destroyed in the air raids on Dresden .
In the Pirnaische Vorstadt, GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals Dresden is the only major industrial plant near Dresden city center - next to the Transparent Factory of Volkswagen in the Seevorstadt-Ost / Großer Garten district .
history
In 1835, the four suburbs to the east of the old town, Fischer-Gemeinde , Rampische , Pirnische and Borngasser-Gemeinde - each named after the street through them - were combined to form the Pirnaische Vorstadt. Since 1877, the eastern part of the Pirnaische Vorstadt has formed the independent Johannstadt district.
