Pieschen-Süd with Leipziger Vorstadt-West (Neudorf) is a statistical district in the Dresden district of Pieschen . It is located northwest of the city center on the Neustadt side of the Elbe .
structure
The statistical district includes the southern part of the Pieschen district and the western part of the Leipzig suburb , also known as Neudorf , which lies within the Neustadt district . It is divided into the following five statistical districts :
- 211 Leipziger Vorstadt (Weimar Street)
- 212 Leipziger Vorstadt (Moritzburger Str.)
- 213 Pieschen-Süd (Torgauer Str.)
- 214 Pieschen-Süd ( Altpieschen )
- 215 Pieschen-Süd (Leisniger Platz)
Population development
As in almost all districts of Dresden, the number of inhabitants has decreased since 1990 due to emigration and suburbanization. However, this trend has been reversed since the late 1990s. Since then, Pieschen-Süd has been a rapidly growing district of the city of Dresden and has far surpassed the population of 1990.
Since the fall of the Wall, special attention has been paid to the renovation of the existing old building in order to create new living space and renovate existing ones. Since 2016, however, more and more multi-family houses have been built to meet the demand for housing.

location
The statistical district of Pieschen-Süd is surrounded in the northeast by Pieschen-Nord / Trachenberge , in the northwest by Mickten , in the southwest by Friedrichstadt and in the southeast by the Leipziger Vorstadt . The border to the south is formed by the Elbe .
The boundaries of the densely built-up district, which is characterized by the Wilhelminian style houses of the old working-class district of Pieschen, are formed by the Leipzig – Dresden railway line , Gehestrasse, Erfurter Strasse, the Elbe and, at Dreyzigerplatz, also Leipziger Strasse.
In Pieschen-Süd is located with the at Bürgerstraße located Pieschner City Hall , the center of the district Pieschen.
traffic
The most important street in the district is Leipziger Straße , an entry and exit road towards Radebeul . It is used by tram lines 4 and 9. The tram line 13, on the other hand, runs over Bürgerstraße, while the bus line 64 runs on Wurzener Straße. There are a total of 12 tram and 3 bus stops in the district. Immediately north of the district boundary is the Pieschen S-Bahn station , which is connected to the S1 line.
At the entrance of the Elbe for Pieschener port that connects Molenbrücke the shore to the pier. It is part of the Elberadweg .
shop
The Pieschens shopping center is on Oschatzer Strasse. Together with the shops in the adjacent streets from Bürgerstraße to Leipziger Straße, it is also known as the Pieschener Viertel .
