history
Gönnsdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1378 as "Godinsdorff". The place name means "village of a Godwin", so it goes back to a German personal name. It developed in the 15th and 16th centuries via the forms "Godinßdorf", "Jodenstorf", "Godestorff", "Godißdorff", "Godemsdorf", "Gaudensdorf", "Gauderßdorff", "Godigßdorff" and "Gönßdorff" 1791 occupied form "Gönnsdorf".
On January 1, 1994, Gönnsdorf merged with eight other communities to form Schönfeld-Weißig. This municipality, which has been part of the Saxon Switzerland district since 1996 , was incorporated into Dresden on January 1, 1999. Since then, Gönnsdorf has formed the statistical district of Gönnsdorf / Pappritz with the surrounding districts of Pappritz , Cunnersdorf , Eichbusch , Helfenberg and Rockau .
Since the fall of the Wall , the population has risen from around 300 to over 900. A major reason for this is the new development of two residential areas (upper and lower "mountain of debt") for terraced and single-family houses.
