history

The Slavic Rundling Podemus was first mentioned in 1349, when Luczmann von Podemiz received the neighboring town of Brabschütz as a fief . The assumption is based on this that there was a manor house in Podemus during this time. The place name is derived from Sorbian pod (German: under ) and moch ( moss ) / myš ( mouse ) / muzga ( lowland ) or from the name of a Sorbian locator . It then developed in very different variants. The forms Pademis, Pademyz, Podemuz, Podemos, Pademus, Podomus, Podemiß, Podeweß, Bodewiß, Bodemitz, Podenitz and Bodenz existed between the 14th and 16th centuries . The current name Podemus appears for the first time as early as 1542 or, according to other sources, as early as 1408, but it was not made binding until the end of the 19th century. In 1827 people also spoke of Boderitz .
Podemus was equipped with a block corridor or strip corridor and was initially probably owned by the Lords of Podemiz. Wilhelm the One-Eyed , Margrave of Meißen, enfeoffed the Meißner Bishop Nikolaus on September 8, 1405 with the village and the Vorwerk Podemus. In the following period, mostly high church officials exercised the manorial rule in Podemus. After the Reformation was in Meissen circle the Prokuraturamt Meissen to the manager of the former possessions of the Catholic Church. In 1559, jurisdiction passed to the office or the administrative authority of Dresden and Podemus was parish off to Briesnitz . Agriculture was the main source of income for the local farmers, especially fruit and horticulture. A bomgarthe ("tree garden") was mentioned as early as 1406 .
In December 1745 Podemus was right on the edge of the Kesselsdorf battlefield . On August 6, 1813, Napoleon Bonaparte and General Vandamme are said to have met with an Austrian ambassador in the village inn before the battle for Dresden . From 1839 the only school in the surrounding villages stood in Podemus, but 18 years later it was moved to Brabuetz. The Podemuser farmer Johann Traugott Leberecht Schubert built the only barn windmill in the world in Podemus in 1864, which is now in Saalow in Brandenburg . On July 1, 1950, Podemus was finally incorporated into Brabschütz and came with this in 1994 to the municipality of Mobschatz, which has been part of the state capital of Dresden since January 1, 1999. With the Vorwerk Podemus company in the former Vorwerk, a model example of organic farming developed after the fall of the Wall, which has been awarded several prizes, including the Saxon Environment Prize.
