The Zschonerbach is an orographically left tributary of the Elbe , which runs through the Zschonergrund in the west of Dresden .

course

Confluence of the Kesselbach (from left behind = south) and Brückelbach (from right behind = west) to the Zschonerbach

It is created by the confluence of the source streams Kesselbach and Brückelbach in Steinbach north of Kesselsdorf . In its 8.4 kilometers long course, the brook flows through the Dresden districts of Steinbach, Zöllmen , Ockerwitz and Briesnitz . In Kemnitz it joins the Elbe south of the A4 motorway bridge .

The flowing through Zschonergrund is a near-natural Kerbtal , from the Zschoner Mühle the valley widens to Kerbsohlental. The bottom of the river is mostly stony, and in parts it is also scree. In contrast to the natural upper course, the last 500 meters of the stream are canalised and cross under the B 6 , among other things . Numerous bats of the strictly protected species water bat and great mouse-eared bat live in the tunnel . There have been no major changes to the course of the water in the last few centuries.

After the confluence of the source brooks, the Berg-Bach desert , the Steinbach , the Jammer , the Pennricher sewage treatment ditch , the Roitzscher brook coming from Roitzsch , 1250 meters long , the Pennricher brook coming from Pennrich , the 800-meter long Pennricher brook , the Ockerwitzer spring tributary , carry the Podemuser Wiesenbach , the Podemuser Wässerchen , the Podemuser drainage ditch , the Podemuser source inflow , the Podemuser Bach , the slope ditch and the Merbitzer ditch contribute to the water level of the Zschonerbach.

Water condition

Due to its catchment area of over 10 square kilometers, the Zschonerbach is a separate body of water according to the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). The brook belongs to water type 5 (WFD): “Coarse material-rich, silicate low mountain brook”.

In 2011, the ecological status according to the EU WFD was rated as moderate (status class 3), the chemical status as good (status class 2). The chemical environmental quality standards according to WFD are complied with.

natural reserve

The catchment area of the Zschonerbach belongs to the landscape protection areas of Dresden Elbwiesen and Dresdner Elbe altar , Elbe valley between Dresden and Meißen with valleys on the left Elbe and Spaar mountains and Zschonergrund , some of which also enjoy the protection status of a flora-fauna-habitat area (FFH). The biotopes protected in the catchment area include alluvial forests , near-natural stream sections, ravine forests and orchards . The gray wagtail lives there as a typical bird species .

swell

Eleven sources are recorded in the catchment area of the Zschonerbach. Two sources are of particular interest: The Zschone-Seitengrund-Quelle 7 is one of the rare sources that are still largely in their natural state. The flow source , which is present here through the Zschone-Seitengrund source 1 , is also a relatively rare source type .
