The Blasewitz town hall is a listed building at Naumannstrasse 5 in the Blasewitz district of Dresden . It is used today by the city district office (until 2018: local office) Blasewitz.

history

The Blasewitz town hall was built in the 19th century in several construction phases on a plot of land near the Elbe ; originally the building was used as the local school house. This oldest part was created according to plans by Gottfried Semper and was inaugurated on November 14, 1851. Most of the financing was taken over by the Naumann Foundation, established in 1841 (named after the composer Johann Gottlieb Naumann ). Since 1902 a plaque on the facade has been commemorating him. The bronze plaque was designed by architecture professor Kurt Diestel and created by the sculptor Bruno Fischer . Since this plaque was lost during the Second World War, a copy was made in 1991. The composer Franz Liszt also contributed to the costs of building the school through a benefit concert in 1844. In 1876 the community of Blasewitz built a new school on Kretschmarstraße so that the old school was no longer needed.

Thereupon the local administration of the place took over the building and set up administrative rooms and a registry office here. In 1890 a renovation was carried out by the architect Wägner. In 1904 another extension was built according to plans by the local architect Karl Emil Scherz . In this context, three relief panels with the images of Saxon kings were attached to the facade, which are no longer available today. Another sculpture commemorates the most famous inhabitant of the place, the innkeeper daughter Johanne Justine Renner ("Gustel von Blasewitz") immortalized by Friedrich Schiller in his Wallenstein trilogy . The creator of this figure was the sculptor Martin Engelke .

With the incorporation of Blasewitz into Dresden in 1921, the town hall lost its function and has served as the municipal administration building ever since. During the GDR era it was the seat of the council of the Dresden-East district . The city district office of Blasewitz has been based here since 1991 .
