List of town halls in Dresden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the list of town halls in Dresden the town halls , town halls or municipal offices are listed that are located in the city of Dresden . The list is based on the category: District (Dresden) , not on the list of the districts of Dresden , as there are z. B. There are townhouses in districts that are not assigned a district, such as the Johannstadt townhouse .

On the basis of the Saxon constitution of 1831 , the end of the z. Some feudal associations and manors from the Middle Ages introduced by laws of 1832 and 1835. For the Saxon rural community order of 1838 , community leaders and community elders, i.e. H. introduced its own municipal self-government; Above all, it abolished the now no longer manageable abundance of jurisdictions. The rural community order itself came into force on May 1, 1839, until then the elections for at least one community leader and one community elder took place (in the case of particularly small communities), otherwise through community committee members, who in turn were members of the community committee and the Elders elected.

The administration of the community was initially organized in the rural communities in such a way that it was usually located directly at the community board , i.e. H. in his rooms in his house, and so also with a change of personnel from the previous to the newly elected community board.

The growing number of inhabitants in the Dresden area therefore not only led to an increasing administrative burden, various revisions of the law of 1838 entrusted more and more administrative tasks to the rural communities, which from around 1885/1890 onwards led to discussions about suitable (own) administrative locations in the communities . Even the city of Dresden itself could no longer carry out its tasks in a single town hall: instead, the town houses were built, in which parts of the administrative tasks were carried out, but which were not assigned their own local council.

Schumann gives the Dresden division:

  • Town hall : seat of the municipal administration and meeting room of the municipal council (committees, municipal council)
  • Town house : Purely administrative headquarters without connection to the municipal council
  • Municipal office : administrative headquarters in a rural municipality without a consultation / meeting room or meeting rooms for the municipal council

and for his part to consider that this - simple - division does not apply in individual cases, as these terms were handled very inconsistently and there were or are no criteria for their use: So for the - according to this definition - the municipal office in Pillnitz the name Rathaus Pillnitz was chosen (probably for representative reasons), while the Rathaus Wachwitz , which was fully valid according to this definition, was never referred to as a municipal office until the incorporation of Wachwitz into Dresden (1930) . The list differentiates in the mentioned sense in the column name therefore only town hall in the sense of municipal office or town hall , regardless of how the building itself was called, and town house as a pure administrative seat.

In the vast majority of cases in the municipalities, the form did not follow the function : there are representative buildings that also testify to the self-confidence of the respective municipalities, such as the town halls of Cotta , Löbtau (destroyed), Pieschen , Leuben or Plauen , but there are still some many, mostly simple, sometimes even unadorned buildings opposite. B. as a residential building - after the independence of the respective municipalities - were continued: A special example of this is the municipal office (here run as the town hall ) of Stetzsch , whose previous function is architecturally no longer legible from the current building (and probably not intended) was); Here, as in other cases, it can only be explored historically (for Stetzsch: building files, historical views).

A municipal office is currently not known for a number of city districts; in many cases they can only be accessed through special publications (e.g. local chronicles) and are currently still open.
