The Reismannhof is an urban residential complex of the municipality of Vienna , built 1924–1925 according to plans by Heinrich Schmid and Hermann Aichinger . It is located in Meidling , Am Fuchsenfeld 1–3, and is enclosed by Längenfeldgasse , Malfattigasse, Murlingengasse, Rizygasse and Rothkirchgasse.

Building description

The Reismannhof is closely related to the Fuchsenfeldhof , which is located on the other side of Längenfeldgasse. After this residential complex was built between 1921 and 1924, the same architects continued the construction, which today forms an independent structure as Reismannhof.

The complex comprises 604 apartments, various shops and a day care center. Several tower-like parts of the building are striking, the central one with round arches. In front of it there is a main square, to which a curved street leads from Längenfeldgasse. Smooth facades alternate with expressive construction phases. At the day care center there are two sculptures depicting children making music.

During the civil war-like events of February 1934 , the Reismannhof and Fuchsenfeldhof courtyards occupied by the Republican Protection Association formed a center of the struggle against Austrofascism . On February 13th, the Schutzbund from both farms launched a relief attack on the Reumannhof , which was occupied by government troops , but had to retreat from the overwhelming force. On February 14th, the armed forces captured the northern part of the Reismannhof and on February 15th the entire complex.

On October 10, 1948, Mayor Theodor Körner unveiled a plaque commemorating eight residents who were killed in a bomb attack on October 11, 1944 and another four people who were killed in a bombing attack on February 13, 1945.

In 1949 the residential complex discussed here was separated from the Fuchsenfeldhof and named after Edmund Reismann , a social democratic local politician. At the central building there is a memorial plaque for Reismann, who died in Auschwitz concentration camp in 1942, unveiled on September 11, 1949 by Theodor Körner.

The Reismannhof has been a listed building since August 1, 2004 ( list entry ).
