Hermann Aichinger

Hermann Aichinger (born May 14, 1885 in Vöcklabruck , Upper Austria ; † June 26, 1962 in Vienna ) was an Austrian architect .

Life

Hermann Aichinger, son of the master builder, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1907 to 1910 , where he was a student of Otto Wagner . Together with Heinrich Schmid , also a student of Otto Wagner, he founded a joint studio, from which numerous joint projects emerged between 1911 and 1949. The office community was one of the busiest in Red Vienna in the 1920s .

Then his son Hermann Aichinger junior and Heinrich Schmid junior also worked in the office.

Hermann Aichinger was buried in Vienna at the Hietzing cemetery (group 12, number 29).

Hermann Aichinger and Heinrich Schmid were leading architects of Red Vienna in the interwar period, where they planned several large residential and public buildings. Following on from Art Nouveau, the duo represented a more tradition-conscious style, which, in addition to functionality, also focused on the aesthetic external effect with an emphasis on carefully executed details. Aichinger built Vienna's first steel frame building on Rotenturmstrasse .
