Julius Popp Hof
The Julius-Popp-Hof is a listed urban residential complex in Vienna - Margareten . It is located at Margaretengürtel 76-80.
Building description
The Julius-Popp-Hof was built in 1925/26 by the architects Heinrich Schmid and Hermann Aichinger as a municipal residential complex. It was named after the close friend and colleague of Victor Adler , Julius Popp . In the entrance area there is a memorial plaque for Julius Popp.
The complex comprises 402 apartments and forms a unit with the neighboring Herweghhof . Together with the nearby Metzleinstaler Hof and the Matteottihof , a striking city district was created in this area of Margaretens.
The closed courtyard with bay-like staircase windows is worth mentioning in this municipal building. From the outside, this building looks like a twin of the neighboring Herweghhof. In the green area between these two municipal buildings there is a fountain by Hanna Gärtner from 1928, which depicts a she-bear with her cub.
