Russian tournament for young physicists
The Russian Young Physicists 'Tournament ( Russian Российский турнир юных Физиков , English Russian Young Physicists' Tournament ) is a physics competition that is held between teams from secondary schools. The pupils should solve complicated scientific questions, present them in a convincing form and defend them in discussions (physics fights). In Russia, the tournament is a preparation and selection competition for the International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT).
history
The tournament was founded in 1979 in the Soviet Union , before the IYPT .
In the first few years, only schools from Moscow and the Moscow area took part in the competition. In 1988, schools from all over the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries were invited to the tournament for the first time. At that time, the tournament could already look back on a very successful history. Leading scientists from the USSR , for example Yevgeny Velikhov and Georgi Sazepin , took part in the project and chaired the organizing committee. In 1989 the organizers of the tournament were awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, it became clear that competition in Russia would need a significant boost so that the Russian teams could continue to do well in international competitions.
Since 2004, the POISK center has been the organization that selects, supervises and prepares a national team that represents Russia at the International Young Physicists' Tournament . These teams have had some good bottom line results over the past few years. At the IYPTs 2004 ( Brisbane , Australia ), 2005 ( Winterthur , Switzerland ) and 2006 ( Bratislava , Slovakia ), bronze medals could be won twice. In May 2007 the Russian team won a silver medal at the Austrian Young Physicists' Tournament in Leoben , Austria .
