Ulrich Tappe

Gerhard Karl Ulrich Tappe (born February 10, 1908 in Pillkallen / East Prussia , † February 11, 1977 in Wilhelmshaven ) was a German architect and Wilhelmshaven city planner.

Life

Ulrich Tappe was born on February 10, 1908 in Pillkallen / East Prussia. After studying architecture in Braunschweig and Munich, he gained his first professional experience as a construction trainee at the University Building Authority in Göttingen. Further stations were Bremerhaven, Lingen, Fallingbostel and Aurich, where he was head of the State Building Department. In 1959 the City Council of Wilhelmshaven elected him to the City Planning Department. On February 11, 1977, he died of a heart condition just four years after his retirement. He left a wife and three children.

Tappe's architectural work was very diverse. In addition to airfields and radar systems in World War II, he built the largest ocean fishing shipping company in Bremerhaven as a freelance architect after 1945. In addition, he designed numerous schools and service buildings. City planner Ulrich Tappe played a key role in the reconstruction of Wilhelmshaven, which was badly damaged by the war.

In 1969 he went public with the "Tappe Plan". It formulated fundamental ideas for the further development of Wilhelmshaven: the creation of a harbor island in the Jade, close cooperation between the seaports of Wilhelmshaven and Bremerhaven in a Jade-Weser port .
