Herbert Wotte

Herbert Wotte (born March 12, 1909 in Dresden ; † March 8, 1989 ibid) was a German educator, draftsman, writer, translator and local researcher.

Life

Wotte was the son of a postman. After attending secondary school, he studied pedagogy, psychology and art education at the universities in Leipzig , Vienna and Dresden from 1928 to 1931 . During this time he came into contact with artists from the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists (ASSO). From 1932 to 1942 he worked as a teacher and art educator, then was a soldier in World War II and returned to Dresden in 1949 from a Soviet prisoner of war. Here he worked as a scientific draftsman at the German Hygiene Museum and worked as a translator of Russian literature, including works by Ivan Turgenev . From 1953 he worked as a teacher in Dresden and from 1968 worked as a freelance author. Travels took him to Mongolia and the Soviet Union, among others. Wotte wrote novels and biographies and was also the author of numerous Brockhaus traveling books .

Wotte lived with his family in Loschwitz and was the father of Joris Wotte (1940-1996). He died in Dresden in 1989 and was buried in the Trinity cemetery.
