Brockhaus hiking booklet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brockhaus-Wanderheft , our little Wanderheft until 1970 , was a series of publications published in the GDR, which was published by VVV Dresdner Verlag Dresden from 1951 and the first eight of which were published by the State Office for Folklore and Monument Preservation of Saxony in Dresden. As early as 1953, the booklets were published by the VEB Bibliographisches Institut Leipzig , which was continued as VEB FA Brockhaus Verlag Leipzig from 1964 . The Wanderhefte appeared until its dissolution in 1977 and were then replaced by the new series Tourist Wanderheft and initially continued with the old numbering before new numbers were assigned in 1981.

Initially it was a 28-page booklet that was traded for 50 or 60 pfennigs. After the first issues, the booklet was expanded either to 48 pages in octave format with 8 black-and-white illustrations or to 56–80 pages with 4 black-and-white illustrations and an overview map. The price for the more recent individual issues was 1 mark each .

Some hiking books appeared in large editions, such as the hiking booklet Sächsische Schweiz in 16 editions between 1952 and 1976 in 247,000 copies.

Due to the increased border security from 1961 and the expansion of the restricted area along the western border, several hiking books had to be heavily revised because hiking areas such as the Brocken (our little hiking booklet 70) were no longer publicly accessible.
