Herbert Clauss

Herbert Clauss (born April 9, 1907 in Schwarzenberg ; † May 5, 2005 in Quakenbrück ) was a German folklorist and local researcher .

Life

Herbert Clauß came from Schwarzenberg in the western Ore Mountains , where he was born in 1907 as the son of Edwin Clauss, who later became the Zwickau chief railway secretary. After attending a secondary school, he attended the teachers' seminar in Zwickau to become an elementary school teacher. He then studied at the University of Leipzig German, history and sport, where he in 1933 at the Faculty with a dialect geographical study of the history and language of Saxony and Bohemia West Erzgebirge at Fritz Karg and Theodor Frings to Dr. phil. received his doctorate . He found his first job as a teacher at the grammar school in Schneeberg . His military service in the Wehrmacht ended in Soviet captivity, during which he was deported to Siberia for five years. After returning to Germany, he was initially deployed underground by the SDAG Wismut . He then took over the management of the Museum of Mining Folk Art in Schneeberg and finally got a position as senior assistant to Friedrich Sieber at the Institute for German Folklore in Dresden, which is affiliated to the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin . He presented several mostly folkloric publications about his homeland, even after he and his family had left the GDR in 1957.

He settled in Quakenbrück in the Osnabrück region, where he lived and worked until his death in 2005. He worked as a teacher at the Artland High School there. In addition, he was involved in the Bersenbrück District Home Association , for which he took over the editing of the "Mitteilungen" and "Schriftenreihe". He edited the local supplements Bersenbrücker Kreisblatt and Bramscher Nachrichten of the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung up to the age of 75.
