Friedrich Sieber (folklorist)

Friedrich Sieber (born August 13, 1893 in Friedersdorf (Spree) ; † March 21, 1973 in Eberswalde ) was a German educator and folklorist .

Live and act

He studied German and modern languages ​​and devoted himself to linguistic folk tradition. In particular , he remained very attached to the legends of his closer homeland (which also includes the West Slavic tribes of the Wends and Sorbs ), which he collected and published in several editions. He was first a teacher in Löbau and after the Second World War he headed the Institute for German Folklore in Dresden (from 1954 attached to the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin ), where he did research on Montan ethnography , the folklore of mining .
