Bernd Schöne

Bernd Schöne (born August 14, 1940 in Kleinröhrsdorf , Province of Silesia ; † May 3, 2009 in Dresden ) was a German folklorist . He was head of the Institute for Folklore in Dresden and later one of the two divisional heads of the newly established Institute for Saxon History and Folklore .

Life

Bernd Schöne was born in the Prussian Province of Silesia (from 1941 Province of Lower Silesia ). He studied at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Then in 1966 he went to the University of Poznan in Poland to study Slavic folklore. After his return, he took on positions as a scientist at the Institute for German Folklore as the Dresden Research Center of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin and presented several publications. In 1975 he received his doctorate from the Academy of Sciences with a dissertation on culture and way of life Westlausitz ribbon weavers in manufacturing capitalism and during the first phase of the industrial revolution (1750-1850) . This work was published in 1977 under the title Kultur und Lebensweise Lausitzer Bandweber (1750-1850) in the Akademie-Verlag.

From 1977 onwards, alongside Alfred Fiedler , he was responsible for the Saxon folklorists in the Kulturbund of the GDR . In 1990 he was head of the Institute for Folklore in Dresden. In 1993 he also became a founding member of the Saxon Cultural Senate . From 1993 to 1996 he headed the documentation project Changes in Living and Business in Villages and Small Towns in Saxony in the Present . In 1996 he was the editor of the Volkskunde in Sachsen series published by Andreas Martin . From 1998 to 2000 he headed the Folklore Department at the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore in Dresden.

In addition to his professional activity, he was also a lecturer at the Humboldt University from 1978 and from 1993 at the chair for Saxon regional history at the Technical University of Dresden .

Bernd Schöne stood up for the DSU for the city council election that took place in Dresden on June 7, 2009 , but died shortly before the election at the age of 69. His grave is located in the Dresden Old Catholic Cemetery .
