Manfred Bachmann
Manfred Bachmann (born May 17, 1928 in Oberwartha ; † June 17, 2001 in Dresden ) was a German folklorist, museum director and toy researcher who published numerous books on this subject.
Live and act
He was the son of a bricklayer and a tiler . After the Second World War , Bachmann was hired as a new history teacher in Cossebaude in 1946 . From 1947 to 1950 he studied German and psychology at the Technical University of Dresden and from 1950 to 1952 he studied German at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . At the same time he worked as an inspector for folklore at the State Office for Folklore and Monument Preservation in Dresden. From 1952 Bachmann was a research assistant at the Central House for Folk Art in Leipzig and from 1956 to 1957 a researcher at the TH Dresden. He received his doctorate in 1957 on the subject of Wilhelm Heinrich Riehl : The socio-cultural folk pedagogical ideas of his work and their significance for the present. For a short time in 1956/57 Bachmann headed the House for Ore Mountain Folk Art in Schneeberg . From 1957 to 1967 he was director of the State Museum for Folk Art in Dresden. In 1968 he took over the general management of the Dresden State Art Collections . In 1984 he was appointed to the Upper Museum Council.
Bachmann works scientifically as a guest lecturer for ethnography at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1973 he was appointed honorary professor for Marxist-Leninist cultural theory at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts . The Dresden University of Technology awarded him on 29 May 1986 "in recognition of extraordinary scientific achievements in the field of cultural history and the outstanding cultural and political merits" the honorary doctorate to Dr. phil. hc
Bachmann belonged u. a. the National Council for the Care and Dissemination of the German Cultural Heritage and has been a member of the Dresden district management of the GDR Cultural Association since 1957 . From 1967 he was a board member of the Council for Museum Affairs at the Ministry of Culture of the GDR, from 1971 a member of the National Committee for Art History of the GDR, since 1973 Vice-President of the National Museum Council of the GDR for the International Council of Museums and since 1976 a member of the Central Expert Committee on Folklore at the Presidential Council of the Kulturbund . From 1977 Bachmann was chairman of the scientific advisory board at the Folklore Center in Schneeberg, from 1978 member of the Albert Schweitzer Committee of the GDR and from 1979 member of the Dresden district board of the Society for Local History. In 1983 he also took over the chairmanship of the Council of Museum Directors of the City of Dresden. From 1988 he was a member of the GDR National Committee for the World Decade of Cultural Development of the UN / UNESCO . In the same year he became a corresponding member of the Austrian Folklore Society .
In April 1989, due to a long illness, Bachmann announced his impending resignation as General Director of the Dresden State Art Collections. After he came under public criticism for the use of builders from the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen for an extension to his private single-family house, he handed over the official business to Johannes Winkler on November 9, 1989 on the recommendation of his doctor. In retirement he continued to work in publications.
