Reinhold Langner

Erich Gottlob Reinhold Langner (born November 21, 1905 in Weinböhla ; † January 11, 1957 in Ockerwitz ) was a German wood sculptor , architectural sculptor , draftsman and painter .

After completing an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and wood carver, Langner began studying wood carving at the Dresden Academy of Applied Arts in 1925 . From 1933 to 1942 he worked as a freelance sculptor. During this time Langner created the miner carvings on the Marienberg town hall door (1938/39). In 1943 he was employed as a teacher at the State Art Academy in Dresden. After the end of the Second World War , Langner was acting head of the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden until 1947 , where he also taught as a professor of sculpture from 1946 to 1948.

From 1948 to 1949 Langner was Professor of Applied Sculpture at the Dresden University of Applied Arts , which he also headed as Rector at that time . In 1949 he became a lecturer for building sculpture at the TH Dresden , and a year later at the same time a lecturer at the University of Leipzig . From 1950 Langner played a key role in the reconstruction of the Museum for Saxon Folk Art in Dresden, of which he became director in 1954. As early as 1952 he had accepted a position as professor for building sculpture at the TH Dresden and worked in this position until his death in 1957. He was buried in the Outer Briesnitz cemetery.
