description

The Güntzpalast is an example of the New Objectivity with traditional elements . The building was built on an L-shaped floor plan. While the front facade with the main entrance is located on Striesener Straße , the rear facade is slightly set back on Güntzstraße. The facade on Güntzstraße is characterized by a traditional construction. It shows slight protrusions and recesses and several richly decorated bay windows . The shop facade on Striesener Straße is completely different: it has been covered with a grid with windows that is strongly emphasized vertically. There are also the jewels of the house. The southern grid facade is adorned with eleven reliefs by Reinhold Langner on Dresden's history, such as the relief Scientific progress through steam power - 1839 in Dresden or the relief Remembrance of the destruction of the city: February 13, 1945 : "Particular attention is paid to the fine relief sculptural sandstone work, which rest entirely in the classical canon of forms . […] Here, too, the desire to combine a synthesis of art and architecture that is firmly rooted in Dresden's building tradition is clearly visible. ”In front of the Güntzstraße side entrance is the sandstone sculpture Flugwille des Menschen , by Max Lachnit , brother of the Dresdener Painter Wilhelm Lachnit , created in 1956. The sculpture stands on a kidney-shaped water basin. The building was built with 260 apartments, the outer facade has an earthy color, and the walls of the three stairwells have been provided with paintings and stucco.
