Lim festival
Lim festival in the province of Bắc Ninh
The Lim Festival (Vietnamese Hội Lim ) is a singing competition that is celebrated in Thị trấn Lim , Tiên Du district , Bac Ninh province , a city not far from Hanoi , Vietnam according to the traditions of the Kinh Bắc culture. The festival takes place every year from the 13th to the 15th day of the 1st lunar month ( lunation ). The date can be changed accordingly.
The singing contest used to be part of the widespread tradition of quan họ singing , which dates back to traditional spring and marriage markets, informal gatherings for young people of both sexes to get to know each other and to court. Today's festival is more like a "folk song" festival.
