Student residence hall Fritz-Löffler-Straße 16
The student dormitory Fritz-Löffler-Straße No. 16-18 (at the time of construction still Reichsstraße , later Juri-Gagarin-Straße ) in Dresden is a hall of residence of the Dresden Student Union . The former Rainer Fetscher student residence is a listed building.
description
The building was built in 1953/55 as a five-storey structure for 500 students based on a design by the architects Wolfgang Rauda . Furthermore, there was also a shop fitting in the building complex, which formed the "prelude to the western mainline development". It was built in a "traditional way" with "strongly structured sandstone plaster facades with bay windows in line with Dresden baroque tradition". Sandstone reliefs designed by Reinhold Langner and Hermann Naumann and paintings on the overhangs by Wilhelm Lachnit also adorn the building.
Today the south wing (No. 18) houses the Dresden Student Union . The north wing (No. 16) continues to function as a dormitory for students from Dresden universities . The GAG 18 student club is located in the basement .
