Helmut Reibig

Ernst Helmut Reibig (born May 14, 1912 in Meißen ; † October 16, 2006 there ) was a German historian , monument conservator and museum director .

Life

Ernst Helmut Reibig was born as one of two sons of the Meissen entrepreneur Ernst Reibig. He attended the Franziskaneum and completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller. During the Second World War he was temporarily imprisoned due to his membership in the KPD , and later worked as an authorized signatory for the Adler & Henzen company in Coswig . After the Second World War, Reibig studied history at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

From 1949 he managed the estate of the art collector Ernst Otto Horn and was responsible for establishing the Otto and Emma Horn Foundation . Between 1954 and 1988, Reibig was responsible for the management of the Meißner Stadtmuseum as archivist . In addition, Reibig was a co-founder of the Kulturbund , a member of the editorial board of the Meißner Heimat newspaper and a lecturer in literature and history at the adult education center. In addition, he was actively involved in the preservation of monuments.

In 2006 he was given honorary citizenship of the city of Meissen for his life's work .
