Eriosyce occulta is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet occulta means '(Latin occultus) hidden, secret'.

description

Eriosyce occulta grows geophytically with hemispherical to spherical, shoots and reaches a diameter of 3 to 8 centimeters. The root is a large, conical taproot . There are up to 14 ribs that are notched and subdivided into rhomboidal cusps . The areoles on it are sunk. The dark brown to black, slightly curved radial spines that lie somewhat on the shoot surface may also be missing. The sometimes present, single central spine is 5 to 10 millimeters long. The four to six radial spines are 3 to 11 millimeters long.

The funnel-shaped, whitish flowers have a light reddish central stripe and appear from young areoles . They are 2.3 to 4 centimeters long and have the same diameter. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with white wool and twisted bristles. The elongated, red fruits are fleshy and up to 1.5 centimeters long. They open with a basal pore.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Eriosyce occulta is common in the Chilean region of Antofagasta . It was first described in 1994 by Fred Kattermann .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
