Horst Roessler

Horst Rößler (born September 5, 1925 in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. , † October 25, 2012 in Stollberg / Erzgeb. ) Was a German educator, cultural politician, local researcher and nature and homeland lover.

Life

Rößler was born the son of a railroad worker in Oelsnitz in the Ore Mountains . After graduating from school in Stollberg, he worked in the Reich Labor Service before being drafted into military service in World War II . After his return he worked for a short time on the farm and then as a chemical worker in the Glauchau textile mill , before starting school as a new teacher in Oelsnitz in 1945. Rößler later became a specialist in history and geography and from 1958 headed the local adult education center in Stollberg.

In 1946 he joined the SED and, according to an acknowledgment on the occasion of his 50th birthday, performed “a comprehensive and varied voluntary work in the cultural and political field”. Since then he has been a local researcher and author in the area around Stollberg / Erzgeb. active. He was u. a. Editor of Heimatfreundes for the Erzgebirge for about 30 years and was responsible for volume 35 of the series Values ​​of our Homeland . He was also a member of the district commission Nature and Homeland of the Kulturbund der GDR and a member of the Central Technical Committee of Homeland History / Ortschronik. His scientific work dealt almost as a rule "with the anti-feudal popular struggles and the history of the labor movement".

He became known nationwide in 1954 through the publication of the publication On the History of the Saxon Workers' Movement together with Ernst Engelberg and Eberhard Wächtler .
