Alexis Scamoni (* February 16 . Jul / 1. March  1911 greg. In Saint Petersburg , † 7. October 1993 in Potsdam ) was a German forest botanist . Scamoni is best known for his internationally recognized works on forest studies.

Life

Alexis Scamoni was a professor at the Forest Science Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin in Eberswalde from 1948 to 1963 . From 1952 to 1976 he worked in the forest vegetation department , and since 1963 at the Institute for Forest Sciences in Eberswalde.

Like many important foresters, he found his final resting place in the Chorin monastery cemetery .

Honors

The forest village "Scamoni-Eichen" in the Chorin Revier has been dedicated to him since 1988 ; these are several 300 to 400 year old Hudewald oaks. Since 1991 the “Scamoni larch” in the park of Potsdam- Sanssouci has been dedicated to him.
