Heinz-Dieter Krausch

Heinz-Dieter Krausch (born September 28, 1928 in Guben ; † July 10, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German geobotanist .

Live and act

Heinz-Dieter Krausch was born as the son of a commercial clerk and was drafted as an anti-aircraft helper in the Navy on the North Sea coast when he was 15 while attending school . In 1948 he passed his Abitur in Guben and began studying biology and chemistry at the Potsdam University of Education . He also attended events on geology , geography , soil science as well as prehistory and early history . He completed his studies in 1953 with a diploma thesis on the meadows of the Oberspreewald . Krausch worked as a research assistant from 1953 to 1961 at the Institute for Landscape Research and Nature Conservation Halle (Saale), Potsdam branch. In 1959 he was charged with a dissertation on the subject of dry grasslands to Dr. rer. nat. PhD . From 1961 to 1991 he was a research associate at the Academy of Sciences in Berlin at the Limnology Research Center . With a thesis on forests, hedges and fringing societies in the Stechlinsee area , he completed his habilitation in 1970 at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . Although he did not become a professor due to “lack of political maturity”, he supervised many diploma and doctoral theses. After the fall of the Wall he was a scientific advisor in setting up new protected areas in Brandenburg .

Krausch dealt with the vegetation and landscape history of Brandenburg, with the history of vegetation, forest history and the importance of cottage gardens , he worked on aquatic and marsh plants and collected popular plant names in Brandenburg and in Lower Lusatia . In professional circles he is considered to be a profound expert on Central and Central Eastern European garden flora. Outside of specialist circles, he is known for his book Kaiserkron und Päonien rot - From the discovery and introduction of our garden flowers , which was awarded the 2003 book prize of the German Horticultural Society . From 1949 he was a member of the Botanical Association of Berlin and Brandenburg, of which he became an honorary member in 1991. In 1961 he was one of the founders of the Niederlausitz floristic working group. In 1993 he received honorary membership of the State Historical Association for the Mark Brandenburg . From 1992 to 2006 he was chairman of the Niederlausitz Society for History and Regional Studies and became its honorary chairman in 2018. At the end of April 2006 he received the Cross of Merit on the Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and on February 20, 2009 he was awarded the honorary professorship.

He was born with Wally. Türk (1929–2020) married.

Heinz-Dieter Krausch died on July 10, 2020 in Berlin.
