Siegfried Jost Casper

Siegfried Jost Casper (born January 12, 1929 in Oberneuschönberg ) is a German biologist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Casper ".

Siegfried Casper's research focus is on limnology and fatty herbs ( pinguicula ). Together with Heinz-Dieter Krausch , he published a basic reference work on the freshwater flora of Central Europe. Casper worked for a long time on the Stechlinsee and the Saale and in 1966 published the "Monograph of the genus Pinguicula L. ", which is still considered a standard work today . Up to the present day he has continuously published further descriptions of newly discovered species, for example 2007 Pinguicula lippoldii and Pinguicula toldensis or 2009 Pinguicula mariae . He has been a full member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt since 1990 and was director of the Jena Botanical Garden .
