Gottfried Herrmann (born September 13, 1915 in Magdeburg ; † May 31, 1961 in Berlin ) was a German director , actor , and general manager .

Life

Herrmann studied singing at the Lower Silesian State Theater. Then he had engagements in Ulm, Würzburg, Hanover, Görlitz and Stuttgart until 1944, where he was employed in the roles of youthful hero and lover as well as singing bon vivant.

After 1945 he was director and production manager at Berliner Rundfunk and Germany broadcaster . He worked as a guest director at the theater, for example in Schwerin (Die Sonnenbrucks) and at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin (people on our street). He then became chief director of the German television network and finally, in June 1954, director of the Friedrichstadt-Palast . There he worked until his death in 1961, staging revues with ballet and artistry, which established the palace's international reputation. In 1958 he was awarded the Goethe Prize of the City of Berlin and in 1959 the GDR Medal of Merit. Since 1955 he was the first chairman of the Berlin committee of cultural workers.

From 1949 to 1953 he was married to the actress Marianne Wünscher . The marriage resulted in son Thomas .
