Sergei Vladimirovich Mikhalkov ( Russian Сергей Владимирович Михалков ., Scientific transliteration Sergei Mikhalkov Vladimirovič * February 28 . Jul / 13. March  1913 greg. In Moscow ; † 27. August 2009 ) was a Russian writer .

He was the author of several children's books, numerous poems and other texts, and the author of the texts of the Anthem of the Russian Federation and the Anthem of the Soviet Union . He was also active as a functionary in many offices.

He is the father of the two film directors Andrei Michalkow-Konschalowski and Nikita Michalkow .

Life

Sergei Michalkow was born in 1913 into a family of noble descent. In 1928 Mikhalkov published his first works. In 1936 he was married for the first time. He soon received high awards for his seals. From 1941 to 1945 he worked as a front-line reporter for a newspaper, where he also wrote war poems.

In 1942 Michalkov's work caught the attention of Josef Stalin , who commissioned him to write the words for a new national anthem . Stalin wanted to replace the previously used International , which no longer seemed appropriate in World War II .

Michalkow backed (together with Gabriel El-Registan ) an orchestral composition by the composer Alexander Alexandrow with his verses. The result of this collaboration became known as the National Anthem of the Soviet Union (or simply "the Anthem"). It was presented to Stalin in the summer of 1943 and introduced as the country's new anthem on January 1, 1944. In 1949 Michalkow became a member of the commission for the award of the Stalin Prize . He also later worked on several similar bodies. In 1950 he became a member of the CPSU . In 1962 he was the idea generator and organizer of the satirical cinema journal Zündschnur (Фитиль), for whose editions he provided the scripts for many years. Here also wrote the script for the cartoon Millioner . From 1964 he was a member of the College of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR and from 1970 to 1992 President of the Writers' Union of the RSFSR .

In 1977 Mikhalkov shortened the national anthem as commissioned, deleted Stalin from the text and regrouped the remaining stanzas. This second version was the hymn of the Soviet Union until 1991. Between 1991 and 2000 there was an unpopular hymn in Russia , the Patriotic Song (Патриотическая песня) by Glinka . After Vladimir Putin became President of Russia in 2000, he tried to make the powerful melody of Alexandrov the national anthem again. At the time, Mikhalkov was 87 years old and long retired. He rewrote the text of the hymn. The result was declared Russia's new national anthem in 2001 .

Mikhalkov lived in Moscow in his retirement . Even in old age he was active as a university lecturer. In 1997 he married for the second time. In 1999/2000 he was chairman of the executive committee of the International Association of Writers' Associations. On his 90th birthday, Mikhalkov received a visit from Putin, who awarded him the Order of Merit for the Fatherland , 2nd degree, for his cultural merits .

As a writer, Michalkow wrote and interpreted, among other things, the satirical poem Der Hase im Rausch . This was first performed in a German translation in 1964 in the congress hall on Alexanderplatz in Berlin in the series of events " Lyrik - Jazz - Prosa " by Eberhard Esche and gained great popularity in the GDR due to this lecture.

At the request of the children, he received the international award as Cavalier of the Order of Smiles .
