The "Patriotic Song" - the former Russian anthem

The Patriotic Song ( Russian Патриотическая песня / "Patriotitscheskaja Pesnja") was the Russian national anthem from 1990 to 2000 . The composition is a piano work by Michail Glinka . Occasionally the hymn was confused with the final chorus of Glinka's opera A Life for the Tsar because of a similar text , but the compositions are different. Independently of this, this same opera choir was proposed as the new Russian anthem.

The song was selected as the anthem of the Russian SFSR in 1990, before the dissolution of the Soviet Union . In 1999 a competition was announced to find a text for the hymn, which Victor Radugin with his text Славься, Россия! ("Be praised Russia!") Won. However, this text never became an official part of the anthem, as the new President Vladimir Putin , who has ruled since the beginning of 2000, advocated a return to the melody of the old Soviet anthem with the new anthem of the Russian Federation .

In the mid-1980s, the song served as the opening melody of the Pervy Canal news program Vremja .

Unofficial text for “ Славься, Россия! “By Wiktor Radugin

Slavsja, slavsja, rodina - Rossija!
Skwos weka i grosy ty proschla
I sijajet solnze nad toboiu
I sudba twoja swetla.

Nad starinnym moskowskim Kremljom
Vjotsja snamja s dwuglawym orlom
I svouchat svyashchennyye slowa:
Slavsja, Rus - Ottschisna moja!

Be praised, be praised, native Russia !
You have survived centuries and storms
And the sun shines over you
And your destiny is bright.

The flag with the two-headed eagle flies over the old Moscow Kremlin And the holy words resound: Be praised, Russia - my fatherland!
