history
At the beginning of the 1950s, the city administration of Bad Segeberg decided to perform Karl May's adventure novels as "Karl May Games" in the local Kalkberg Stadium. This had only been used occasionally for years. Many Bad Segebergers took part as extras , sewed costumes or looked after the horses borrowed from local farmers.
The budget for the first production by Lübeck's senior director Rudolf Ludwig was 25,000 DM , but several million euros are available in the 21st century.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany , no major events may take place anywhere in Germany in 2020. The planned performance of The Oil Prince has been canceled for the 2020 season and will be shown in summer 2021.
