The legacy of the Inka is an open-air play based on thetravel story of the same name by Karl May by Toni Graschberger and Roland Schmid . It was premiered in 1974 at the Karl May Games in Bad Segeberg .

The plot in the novel
The German Karl Hammer, known as "Father Jaguar", takes on the task in Buenos Aires to bring the young Anton Engelhardt to his father in Lima . Since more people want to cross the Andes , the tour company - sometimes without the tour guide's permission - grows quickly. Among the travelers are the paleontologist Dr. Morgenstern with his servant Fritz Kiesewetter and the surgeon Don Parmesan. Dr. Morgenstern looks so much like Colonel Glotino that various enemies of the Colonel cling to the troops' heels.
The scientists accidentally discover a secret arsenal and are captured by its owners (Antonio Perillo and Benito Pajaro). Don Parmesan manages to notify his father Jaguar, who is Dr. Morgenstern and Fritz Kiesewetter can free. Even later on, they are always in danger and have to be saved.
A young Indian named Haukaropora and his old companion Anciano also join the group. They too want to go to the Andes to unearth a huge treasure - the legacy of the Inca. With the help of this treasure, Hauka, the last Inca , is supposed to rebuild the fallen empire.
In the vicinity of the treasure, the situation escalates: old bills are paid, the villains fall into a trap that protects the treasure and are fatally injured. The treasure will be destroyed.
Hauka decides to study in Europe and let the past rest.

“For the first time in the history of the Segeberger Karl May Games, a Karl May play was on the program in 1974, the setting of which is set in the Peruvian-Bolivian Cordillera - to date this has been a unique feature. Toni Graschberger wrote exactly how his predecessor Leisner with the ' Felsenburg ' five years earlier Segeberg festival history, and on no other open-air stage could it be admired before or after.
Klaus-Hagen Latwesen , one of the main actors of the previous year, had proven himself as Winnetou . So there was no risk in giving him a leading role again for the new season. From a purely visual point of view, Latwesen gave the Inca prince Haukaropora a very Winnetou-like note. If Winnetou is seen as the 'prince' of the Indians - Heinz Ingo Hilgers always referred to him as the Indian king - there is another parallel to the Inca prince. ...
At his side in Graschberger's very elaborate production, Peter Lehwald played the role of Jaguar's father, Karin Heine (Queen of the Raging ) and Horst Thomas (Dr. Morgenstern). Lehwald had previously played Old Shatterhand in ' Unter Vultures ' in Berlin .
The cast list also contained names of 'regular contributors' to the games: Edgar Maschmann , Gerhard Hönisch, Rolf E. Schenker or Manuel Regehly were some of them who were unable to get rid of their 'Bad Segeberg virus' every summer .
Also there ... Gunther Schüler: He celebrated his personal Segeberg anniversary in 1974. For the 10th time he played in the Karl May Games . The student Segeberg era did not end until 1987. Schüler would have liked to continue playing with Karl May, he explained in the Hamburger Abendblatt in 1990 , but he was no longer asked. "
