action

The tour company is now on the way to the Pampa de Salinas. On the way they meet Pena, who asks for help for a group of settlers who are in danger on the Aripones territory , and - finally - the Sendador Geronimo Sabuco, who is by no means innocent of the danger to the settlers. He is captured and the settlers rescued.

While the companions (especially Gomarra and Pena) speak out in favor of harsh punishment for the Sendador, the first-person narrator secretly releases him. The Sendador does not keep to the agreement and incites Indians on the tour group, most of them can be captured.

The narrator and Pena escape and meet old Desierto, whom they save from an attack by Geronimo Sabuco's son-in-law. The son-in-law Yerno is captured; When the Sendador attacks with Indians, this attack is also repulsed. However, the Sendador can escape.

The narrator quickly frees the companions from the Isleta del Circulo and then pursues the villain into the Pampa de Salinas. There Sabuco is plunged into the depths by Gomarra. The narrator can rescue the seriously injured man in a dramatic action. When Sendador's son, who suddenly appears, flees across the salt lake with his kipus , he breaks in and is saved by the narrator at the last second. But the treasure kipus were lost when they broke in and are irretrievably gone. Since his son was rescued from danger to his life, the Sendador becomes serious and insightful. Still he dies.
