Old Surehand II

Old Surehand II is the second volume in the Surehand trilogy. Karl May wrote the second part of the story in the period from November to December 1894. It waspublishedas volume 15in the series Karl May's collected travel novels by the publisher Friedrich Ernst Fehsenfeld .

In 1909 an illustrated edition with pictures by Claus Bergen appeared .

With the exception of the final chapter, he used texts that had already been published. In the second volume, the following stories were summarized in a frame narrative:

action

Old Shatterhand is in Jefferson City at Mother Thick's inn. A whole series of interesting characters are gathered there, entertaining each other with narrated adventures. Old Shatterhand just listens.

This hour of chatting is interrupted by six rowdies. Its leader, Toby Spencer, mentions that he wants to go to Colorado with General Douglas . Since he starts a fight soon after, Old Shatterhand throws the whole gang out. He then visits the Wallace banking house, where he gets information about Old Surehand . This is also on the way to Colorado because he had found the trail of Dan Etters.

Shortly thereafter, Old Shatterhand meets Dick Hammerdull and Pitt Holbers , whose money has been stolen from the general.

Old Shatterhand, Winnetou , Holbers and Hammerdull, as well as the detective Treskow, whom they met at Mother Thick's, decide to follow the general and look for Old Surehand as well.

On Fenner's farm, they unexpectedly come across Old Wabble , who tries to kill Shatterhand, which is fortunately foiled by Winnetou.

Book editions

  • Karl May: Old Surehand (3 volumes). Reprint of the first book edition by Friedrich Ernst Fehsenfeld , Freiburg i. Br., 1894, 1895 and 1896, edited with an afterword by Roland Schmid from Karl-May-Verlag , Bamberg 1983.
  • After Karl May's death in 1912, the three-volume story (restructured) was included in Karl May's Collected Works (Karl May Verlag. Bamberg, Radebeul). Volumes 14 and 15 contain the actual Old Surehand story (volume I, 4th chapter of volume II and volume III) while the 19th volume, entitled Captain Kaiman, contains the texts "Captured on the Sea", "Three carde monte" and "Under the Windhose" contains. The episode "The Royal Treasure" was published as part of the novel Waldröschen in Volume 51.
  • The dates of the creation of the stories "Ein Self-man", "Vom Tode wangen " and "Auf der See Gefangen " were taken from the happy hour print of the Karl May Society.

Settings

Since, strictly speaking, it is almost an anthology, there is no setting of the entire material. The Old Surehand two productions above are almost exclusively Old Surehand 3 -texts what is just because the Karl-May-Verlag , who often acted as licensor of 3 Old Surehand just Old Surehand 2 made and the actual volume 2 spun off.

The partial narrative caught on the sea was , however, edited as a radio play .

The only real Old Surehand 2 implementations were created in the area of ​​productions for the blind and visually impaired and cannot be purchased.
