The track leads to Silbersee is a German puppet film from 1990 by Günter Rätz . It is based on the novel Der Schatz im Silbersee by Karl May .
action
On a Mississippi steamboat the "Westman" meets Old Shatterhand the bandit "Cornel" Brinkley , already per profile is sought and therefore hides his red hair under a black wig. Hobble-Frank and Aunt Droll accompany Old Shatterhand to hand over a treasure map, the legacy of the chief, to the tribe of Chief Big Bear . This map shows a gold treasure in the Silbersee. Since Brinkley learns about it, he tries to steal the treasure map from the Westmen. The three western men, however, come to the aid of Chief Winnetou . The bandits are now trying to steal the wages of the railway workers in Sheridan, but Winnetou and Old Shatterhand arrange for their arrest. They hand Brinkley and his men over to the military, but the bandits escape and steal some horses from the Utah tribe. The big wolf (German dubbing: gray wolf) then swears revenge and suspects Shatterhand and his friends, who manage to escape the vengeful Indian. At the lake there is a showdown: The tramps are betrayed and killed by Brinkley. He then drowns himself in the Silbersee before he can escape on a canoe with the treasures of the Tonkawas. Winnetou and Old Shatterhand smoke the pipe of peace with the Indians and their friends.
production
The film was produced by DEFA Studios for animated films in the GDR and is based closely on the novel; however, like the real-life version (1962), replaces the Old Firehand appearing in the novel with the character Old Shatterhand .
The shooting time was three years. The track leads to the Silbersee came into the cinemas of the GDR in January 1990. However, as a result of the political change , the film became a commercial failure. In the Federal Republic of Germany the film was shown in a five-part serial version for the first time in 1990 in the ARD children's program, first from 25 to 29 December 1990 on BR television . The broadcaster was the first to show the film "in the play" on July 28, 1991.
Director Günter Rätz also planned a film adaptation of the Karl May novel Der Geist des Llano Estacado , but had to refrain from it after the failure in the theatrical release of the Silbersee film.
