The 7th Gera Festival " Goldener Spatz " for German children's films in cinema and television took place from February 9th to February 14th 1991 in Gera . It was the seventh edition of the children's film festival Goldener Spatz, which was first hosted in 1979 , and the first festival after German reunification .

Of the 159 films submitted, 45 were selected for the festival's competition and the festival opened with the animated film The Trace Leads to Silbersee , directed by Günter Rätz . For the first time, the jury awarded the GOLDEN SPARROWS to the young audience, the expert jury awarded main prizes in the individual categories. 252 trade visitors attended the festival, including three foreign children's film experts.

A special service of Geraer Verkehrsbetrieb GmbH was that every festival guest, in possession of a participant or press pass, could enjoy free travel on all public transport in the city from February 7th to February 15th, 1991.
