Golden Sparrow 1987
The 5th national festival “Goldener Spatz” for children's films from the GDR in cinema and television took place from February 7th to 13th, 1987 in Gera . It was the fifth edition of the children's film festival Goldener Spatz , which was first organized in 1979 . Only contributions were presented that had been published in the GDR in the two previous years .

A total of 54 children's films competed for the Golden Spatz , which was awarded in three categories. The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the GDR, the State Committee for Television and the Association of Film and TV Makers of the GDR in cooperation with the Gera District Council . Walter Beck , President of the Festival Committee, opened the event with the DEFA film Das Schulgespenst by director Rolf Losansky .
The award winners in the various categories were selected by a jury made up of 12 specialist judges. The president of the jury was Heinz Hofmann . In addition, there was also a 15-member children's jury, which was composed of pioneers from the polytechnic high schools in the city and district of Gera and awarded honorary prizes. Siegfried Thiele was the mentor of the children's jury and at the same time educational assistant at the Pionierpalast in Dresden.
The competition included: 24 animated films , 18 documentaries and 12 feature films or television games . The award ceremony took place on February 13, 1987 in the Palast-Theater zu Gera.
