Günter Jordan

Günter Jordan (born January 17, 1941 in Leipzig ) is a German documentary filmmaker and author .

Life

Günter Jordan was born on January 17, 1941 in Leipzig. He studied Slavic Studies, History and Education at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena until 1963, after which he worked as a teacher. In 1966 he began a special degree in directing at the German Academy for Film Art in Potsdam-Babelsberg .

From 1969 he worked as an assistant director and from 1974 as director and author of his own films in the DEFA studio for documentary films , of which he was a member until 1991. From 1976 to 1986 Günter Jordan was a member of the group Documentaries for Children . Several documentaries were made under his direction from 1972 to 2002. His film Scream once a week came among other things because of a song by the Pankow group with the line “Always ask for permission, there's nothing more to dare to do, who wants to be on a leash, I want to think for myself, see for yourself” n. ”and was only premiered in October 1989.

In 1990 Günter Jordan received his doctorate from the Humboldt University of Berlin ( Dissertation A , "DEFA Wochenschau and Documentary 1946–1949. New German film in post-war society between the foundations and changes in self-image, function and shape"). In addition to writing his own books, he published articles in various newspapers and magazines. From 1982 to 1988 he was a board member of the Association of Film and Television Workers of the GDR . Günter Jordan has been working as a freelance filmmaker and film historian since 1992. In addition, from 1990 to 1993 he was a lecturer at the University of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg (now Babelsberg Film University) and in 1992 at the Philipps University of Marburg .
