Copihuito is a documentary film by the DEFA studio for documentaries directed by Günter Jordan from 1977 .

action

In 1977 young Chilean pioneers met in Berlin, who found themselves with their parents or relatives in asylum in the GDR because of the coup of the fascist junta in Chile . You are designing a newspaper, a pioneering newspaper with the title Copihuito for all Chilean children who live in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). You make this newspaper because many of these children long for their home country so that they can read something exciting and informative and not forget their Spanish language.

The children tell how they came up with the name of the newspaper: Copihuito is the national flower of Chile, it is like the blood that the Chilean people shed. This flower has been a symbol since the natives fought against the Spaniards between the 15th and 16th centuries. It has a special meaning for the fighters who achieved independence and for the people who are oppressed by the Pinochet regime , because the flower means victory for the people. It is very beautiful, it is like a creeper , it looks red and it is shaped like a bell.

While a Chilean pioneer types a text on an old mechanical typewriter, other boys show their drawings with little men. A group of children is occupied with the reproduction machine , which causes problems but which are overcome. Again and again there are overlays of various drawings in the Indian style from the history of Chile by César Olhagaray , underlined with quotations from Pablo Neruda's poem: The Great Song ( Canto General ).

Other activities of the Chilean pioneers are also shown. A jubilant group received the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Chile Luis Corvalán and his wife when they were received by Erich Honecker at Berlin-Schönefeld Airport .
