Golden Sparrow 1989

The 6th National Golden Sparrow Festival for GDR children's films in cinema and television took place in Gera from February 4 to February 10, 1989 . It was the sixth edition of the children's film festival Goldener Spatz, which was first organized in 1979 .

In the competition, 21 animated films , 16 documentaries and articles from television journalism, 13 feature films and television games were shown . One of these was the opening film Kai out of the box , directed by Günter Meyer .

In addition to the festival, there was an extensive supporting program in Gera, Jena and Pößneck . Examples of this are the following contributions: Director portrait Wolfgang Huebner, retrospective of the director Walter Beck , selection of important animated films for cinema and television, retrospective "30 years of the GDR's animation studio in Mahlsdorf", competition entries for the 5th GDR National Feature Film Festival in Karl-Marx- City , selected adult films in which children play prominent roles.

With 50,000 spectators, according to “ Neues Deutschland ” on February 13, 1989, a large number of people visited the festival's offers. There were also many film and television professionals and journalists from the GDR who came again. 323 took part in the festival, as well as 100 representatives from 16 pioneer film clubs in the GDR. 56 foreign guests from 15 countries took part in the festival, including 25 from Germany and West Berlin .
