Life

The daughter of the gynecologist Wilhelm Breipohl († May 1945) and his wife Marie-Luise grew up in Bielefeld with five siblings from 1941 . The father was last employed at the University Women's Clinic in Berlin and was shot by Soviet soldiers in the last days of the Second World War . The family then lived in poor conditions in Westphalia. Pohl trained as a beautician. She took acting lessons from Herma Clement in Berlin.

Witta Pohl's first engagement at the theater led her to the Staatstheater in Kassel in 1957 , where she took on the title role in Frances Goodrich's and Albert Hackett's Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank . Further engagements have taken her to the Münchner Kammerspiele , the Braunschweiger and Darmstadt theaters and the Schauspielhaus Zurich . In 1960, on the occasion of her portrayal of Hermia in the Shakespeare comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Bad Hersfeld Festival, she received the city's young actresses prize. From 1965 to 1973 Pohl was a member of the ensemble of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg . After that she was seen at the Ernst-Deutsch-Theater , the Hamburger Kammerspiele and again at the Bad Hersfeld Festival.

She made her television debut in 1960 in The Raft of Medusa and has since appeared in over forty television productions. In 1966 she and Brauer also appeared in front of the camera in the television film Geibelstrasse 27 . After that she was married to the dentist Ekkehart Franz.

In the 1980s, the actress sponsored children in Sri Lanka , the Maldives , Uganda and Poland . She organized stays in clinics and operations for sick children.
