Till Franzen

Till Franzen (born May 18, 1973 in Flensburg ) is a German director and screenwriter .

Life

In 1993/94 he studied at the European Film College in Denmark .

In 1995 he continued his studies at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne . His graduation film "The Great Operation" received attention at numerous festivals around the world and was broadcast on television on the Franco-German channel Arte .

His feature film debut The Blue Border with Hanna Schygulla , Dominique Horwitz , Antoine Monot Jr. and the Danish actress Beate Bille was shown at almost forty film festivals around the world and has won several awards. In Lund , Sweden , the film received the melies d'argent award for best European film. In Portugal , The Blue Border received the Portuguese Film Critics Award. He was also nominated for the German Independence Award at the Oldenburg Film Festival. Further nominations followed for the North German Film Prize in the categories “Best Film” and “Best Screenplay”. The main actors Dominique Horwitz and Antoine Monot, Jr were nominated as best leading actor at the German Film Awards for their achievements in The Blue Border . The film was shown in German cinemas in 2005/06. The star, for example, praised the film as "one of the most beautiful films of the year". A critic in Choices wrote: "As if David Lynch and Helge Schneider had brainstormed during the coastal fog."

In autumn 2015 he took over the direction of the six-part mystery miniseries Weinberg . He staged the pilot episode and the following three episodes and was therefore responsible for the visual language, the sound design , i.e. the basic audiovisual concept of the series. The series was critically acclaimed, was nominated for the German Television Prize and the Grimme Prize , and was ultimately awarded the latter. Weinberg ran at the international Cologne Conference in the category “10 most important works worldwide”. For episode 4 Franzen also received a nomination for the German Director Prize Metropolis as best director.

In 2018 he took over the direction of the first 4 episodes of VOX's own production "The Most Important in Life" and was thus again responsible for the cast and the basic audiovisual concept.

Till Franzen shot numerous music videos for bands such as Blumfeld , International Pony , Stella and Whirlpool Productions . Commercials for u. a. Mercedes-Benz, 13th Street and LG.

Franzen is married to the actress Katharina Schüttler . They have two daughters together.
