Irrlichter is a German television film by Till Franzen from 2018. It is the 4th film in the ARD crime film series Wolfsland with Götz Schubert and Yvonne Catterfeld in the leading roles.

action

Viola Delbrück and Butsch Schulz investigate the murder of the inn owner Arnold Olmützer, who was found in a pond in the forest on Hochstein. The man was very popular in the village and gave the tourists very passionate city tours, during which he liked to recite eerily beautiful occult anecdotes from local history. In his family, however, things are less harmonious. Since Olomouc's wife died 10 years ago, her sister has always been at his side, but Olomouc has had a Swiss girlfriend for some time. His two sons, Clemens and Bastian, may not have liked their father's new plans either. While Clemens and his wife ran the country inn with self-sacrifice, Bastian had not been seen by the family after his mother's death. He only recently appeared again. And as it now turns out, Olmützer wanted to transfer his life insurance to Bastian, much to Clemens' displeasure. He was hoping for the capital injection he urgently needs for the inn. His father resisted any innovations and so the bookings kept falling.

Meanwhile, Olmützer's Swiss girlfriend from Germany wants to break away and the investigators discover that she is a wanted marriage swindler. You can stop them from escaping just in time. However, they cannot prove a direct connection with the murder.

Delbrück and Schulz are sure that the solution to the case is to be found in the family. The mother suffered from epilepsy and drowned in the bathtub one evening after an attack. Bastian had blamed his father for this, because his sick wife became more and more a burden to him. Delbrück finds out that Bastian had made an appointment with the well-known criminal Goran Tonka to give his father a rub. However, it cannot be proven whether this really happened. On the other hand, the investigators discover that Olmützer had a relationship with his future sister-in-law before his wife. When Gesine Schwenk had a child from Arnold Olmützer, she initially left it with him and Bastian grew up as a child of Olmützer and his wife. Later, when Helene fell ill, Gesine returned and Olomouc ran the business. When she saw the man she loved want to leave with a strange woman, she killed him in anger. She confesses everything and mentions that she had "freed" Olomouc from his sick wife.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv said: “Till Franzen uses [...] the usual clichés to fill gaps (drone flights over town and country, red sunset, billowing fog) and does not prevent his supporting actors from overshooting the target. The director has already made some films that are well worth seeing. ”“ If tension arises in 'Irrlichter', however, this is solely due to the again good music, which always conveys that an abyss could lurk behind the images; Otherwise, however, the thriller is free of surprises in terms of both content and design. "

In Quotenmeter.de evaluated Julian Miller: "As in not a few mysteries in this time slot is the drama even more exciting than the crime, human history much more fascinating than the constructed Mitknobelei. Time and again, with this episode, 'Wolfsland' shows that this series could do more than what it wants to be - and with the competent play of the main actors Götz Schubert and Yvonne Catterfeld, who both put on their characters pleasantly unaffected and with an unobtrusive fragility, would also have the human resources in front of the camera to implement a corresponding ambition. "

Eric Leiman at Prisma.de wrote: “The events are more reminiscent of an old school 'crime scene' than a classic ARD Thursday crime film, which is usually more about beautiful landscapes and criminal ease than about the force of crime. But even if the actors make every effort - the secret, which has to be cleared up in 90 minutes, could possibly be guessed at a fairly early stage by specialist viewers of the German TV thriller. "

The Berliner Morgenpost found: “The script and direction are not heading straight for the clarification of the case. But the narrative style and character drawing make it relatively easy for those who have tried a crime thriller to anticipate the breakup. Above all, it is the secondary characters who drive the action and also set delicious accents. ”Conclusion:“ Fog and clouds over Görlitz. A few less flickering will-o'-the-wisps would have done the thriller good. "
