Brings is a Cologne dialect - band . The band first made a name for themselves as a rock band and sings both Kölsch and, since 1995, High German . After the success of the title Superjeilezick in 2001, she specialized in Cologne mood hits.

Band history

The band was founded in 1990 by the brothers Peter (born September 8, 1964 in Cologne ) and Stephan Brings (born September 1, 1965 in Cologne), Harry Alfter (born August 5, 1964 in Bonn ) and Matthias Gottschalk (born December 30, 1961 in Leverkusen ). Today it consists of Harry Alfter, Christian Blüm (born July 18, 1965 in Bonn / son of Norbert Blüm ), the brothers Peter and Stephan Brings (sons of Rolly Brings ) and Kai Engel (born June 12, 1971 in Cologne / son of Tommy Engel , founding member of Bläck Fööss ).

Beginnings

In 1991 the debut album Zwei Zoote Minsche was released . In terms of content, the band tried to differentiate. Looking back, Peter Brings said: “Any direct reference to Cologne would have been fatal. We could have registered for the ceremonial session with Prince Carnival. ”In 1992 the album Kasalla was released ; 1993 the third album Hex'n'Sex . In 1991 the band played alongside Billy Idol and Transvision Vamp as support for Simple Minds in the sold out Müngersdorfer Stadium in Cologne and in 1993 at Rock am Ring . A highlight was the almost sold-out Cologne sports hall in the same year. Brings also played in front of a large audience at Start ins Wildall , the opening event of SWR3 at Baden-Airpark and for the second time at Rock am Ring on May 30, 1993. There were also several appearances on the WDR broadcast Rockpalast . Brings played as opening act on tours for AC / DC , Tom Petty and Simple Minds, among others .

The first hit was Nur mer Zwei , which reached number 56 in the German charts. Other well-known titles from this period are Katharina , Nix is Verjesse , Ali , Ehrenfeld , Bis ans Meer , which was discussed as a film score for Knockin 'on Heaven's Door , and also the socially critical handful of ze fresse , which SWR3 named “Song of the Year “Was chosen. In the film Knockin 'on Heaven's Door , Peter Brings made a brief appearance as a nurse.

Brings is also committed to political goals. The best- known example is the group ass huh with the accompanying concert on Cologne's Chlodwigplatz in 1992 in front of more than 100,000 spectators. The albums Zwei Zoote Minsche , Kasalla and Fünf and Fünf + 4 were produced by long-time BAP guitarist Klaus Heuser . For nearly the u stands. a. Dieter Falk , who became known as the juror of the casting show Popstars , was responsible as the producer.

Style change

After the band had calmed down, their greatest success so far came in 2000 with the song Superjeilezick , based on Those Were the Days . In the Cologne Carnival in particular , the piece, which was actually only intended as a birthday serenade for the band, became a long-runner. In 2001, together with the Wise Guys , they produced the song Stolz for their album Ganz far front . After the surprise success of Superjeilezick , there was a significant and heatedly discussed change in the musical style away from classic rock to party and mood music, often with typical polka elements. In 2003 Brings u. a. at the UZ press festival . In the carnival session 2004 the band landed another hit with Poppe, Kaate, Danze . In 2005 the band composed the song Hoch, Höher, Haie for the ice hockey club Kölner Haie , which has since been considered the club's unofficial anthem. A year later, on the occasion of the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the hit " Football is Our Life", produced by Jack White in 1974 with the national team, was reissued and became another success. The single was able to assert itself in the charts for four weeks .

On November 24, 2006, the single Hay! Hay! Hay! , the music was taken from Verka Serduchka's song Gop-gop . The play, which is sometimes interpreted as the glorification and trivialization of drug use, is no longer played at Carnival events by Brings after consultation with the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee . The album Hay! Hay! Hay! went on sale on January 12, 2007. For the 2007/2008 session, Brings released a cover version of Zarah Leanders Nur not cry for love . With this single the band achieved a placement in the top 50 of the single charts . With the Cologne triumvirate Brings presented their new and rock-style carnival hit Su ne Daach, su ne Daach, su ne Daach never zoröck . In the 2008/2009 carnival session, Brings presented the titles Mama we thank you and Immer aries . Her album Rockmusik was released on November 21, 2008. It contains a number of tracks that have already been released as single and is stylistically linked to the carnival-style albums of recent years. As a singer, Peter Brings supports the Cologne band Schmackes on the title track of their maxi CD Fastelover and took part in the 2008 WDR Fool's Hit Parade with this formation .

After Brings are on the road outside of the carnival session, especially in the area around Cologne or in the Rhineland , the band led the tour in 2008 on the initiative of the Köln-Münchner Karnevalsverein e. V. also to Munich . Within six weeks of the start of advance sales in January 2008, all 700 available tickets were sold - after a long time the band was able to build on earlier successes outside of the Rhineland. For the 20th anniversary of the band, the group gave an open-air concert on July 16, 2011 in the sold-out Rhein-Energie-Stadion in Cologne in front of 50,000 spectators . For the 25th anniversary, they gave another concert on June 4, 2016 in the Rhein-Energie-Stadion in front of around 50,000 spectators. The band received musical support from the Bläck Fööss , rapper Eko Fresh and Chris Thompson, among others .

Television appearances

The band achieved nationwide attention primarily through appearances in television programs such as Immer wieder sonntags , ZDF-Fernsehgarten or Karnevalissimo . In addition, Brings played repeatedly in the program Die Feste der Volksmusik .

For the 10th anniversary of the band, the Rockpalast shot the documentary "10 Years Brings Ne SUPERJEILEZICK".
