Transvision Vamp was a British alternative - rock band of the late 1980s. In the initial line-up, Transvision Vamp consisted of five members: Wendy James (vocals), Nick Christian Sayer (guitar), Dave Parsons (bass), Tex Axile (keyboard) and Pol Burton (drums), who, however, joined the band after the first album was released left. From then on, Transvision Vamp appeared as a quartet .
Optical and acoustic appearance
The group was founded in 1986 by Dave Parsons, who earlier in the punk - band The Partisans had played. That is why the sound of Transvision Vamp had style elements of punk right from the start and combined them with elements of the rock and pop scene. With this combination, the band quickly stood out from the crowd and almost managed to create their own style.
Another noticeable feature was the attractive, hydrogen-blonde lead singer Wendy James. She consciously played with erotic components and used her sex appeal to increase awareness of the band among fans and media alike. With the image of a wicked defiant schoolgirl, who deliberately exploited her erotic charisma in all appearances with suggestive clothing and movements, she caused a sensation in the late 1980s and also received heavy criticism.
successes
Transvision Vamp celebrated her first major success in 1988 with the punk song I Want Your Love , which fit perfectly with the image maintained by Wendy James and which she presented with an erotic touch with the help of her voice and appearance. The band then released their first album Pop Art in October 1988, which rose to the top ten in Great Britain . In 1989, the breakthrough for Transvision Vamp came when she released the single Baby I Don't Care from her new album Velveteen .
The following years, however, brought bigger problems that ultimately led to the breakup of the band. In 1989, the record company MCA was not ready to release the third album because, in the opinion of MCA, it was too shallow and gentle and no longer corresponded to the image of Transvision Vamp . The third album Little Magnets Versus The Bubble Of Babble was only released in 1991 after much hesitation . But at this point the media interest in Transvision Vamp had already died and the fans were hardly interested in the band either. Accompanied by internal quarrels, Transvision Vamp was finally dissolved.
Dave Parsons later joined the US band Bush , Wendy James started a new career in 2004 as lead singer with the US band Racine .
