Bush is a British rock band .

Career

Bush was created in London in 1991 and named itself after the place of its first appearance ( Shepherd's Bush ) . She celebrated her first release with a self-released LP called Sixteen Stone , which was released in the spring of 1994.

Stylistically, they are often classified as grunge because many critics heard similarities with the band Nirvana on their first album, Sixteen Stone . However, this has not been true since their third album, The Science of Things at the latest , as typical grunge elements are missing here, such as B. the straightforward song management. The band can best be classified as “general alternative rock ” (as opposed to classic rock ). In 2004 Rossdale announced a solo project. Together with the previous separation from guitarist Nigel Pulsford (who was replaced by Chris Traynor ( Helmet (band) ) during appearances , this heralded the temporary end of Bush. Rossdale's solo project, Institute , became his new band (at least he claims it's more than a project). The album Distort Yourself , produced by Page Hamilton (Helmet), has been available for purchase since 2005. In 2008, Gavin Rossdale released his first solo album Wanderlust . It reached number 64 in Germany as the highest chart position.

Gavin Rossdale officially announced on December 12, 2008 at the Clarendon Ballroom in Arlington, Virginia that Bush would make a comeback in 2009 . On June 21, 2010 it was announced that the band will finally reform and play their first concert in over eight years at the Epicenter Music Festival (September 25-26, 2010) in California. In summer 2011 they announced the founding of their own label called Zuma Rock Records . On September 13th a new album was released there called The Sea of Memories . The two founding members Nigel Pulsford and Dave Parsons did not return to the band, which meant that only half of the original line-up was involved in the reunion.

Three years later, the band tried to finance a sixth album through a crowdfunding campaign . They also sold band devotional items such as instruments and handwritten lyrics. Bush first worked with Sony Music on the release of Man on the Run , which appeared on October 17, 2014 .

Discography

1994: Sixteen Stone

The debut album by the Londoners received increased attention thanks to heavy rotation of the singles Everything Zen and Little Things on US college rock channels such as KROQ and marks the early breakthrough in the US market, where Bush received more attention than in Europe by the end of her career. The breakthrough in Europe came mainly with the single Glycerine .

1996: Razorblade Suitcase

The album produced by Steve Albini was a stylistic turnaround. While there were still some good-mood hits on the previous album, there is an almost depressive mood here due to the more introverted songwriting, the slowed pace and the increased acoustic content. The most famous songs are the singles Swallowed and Greedy Fly . Highly acclaimed videos were published for both.

1997: Deconstructed

This is a remix record in which Goldie and Tricky were involved, among others .

1999: The Science of Things

The third regular album is characterized by an increased amount of electronic gadgets, but these never come to the fore. Among the guest musicians is Rossdale's future wife Gwen Stefani (at that time still known as the front woman of the band No Doubt ). With the singles The Chemicals Between Us , Letting The Cables Sleep and Warm Machine Bush reached a wide audience again.

2001: Golden State

Golden State turned out to be a commercial flop. Stylistically far less willing to experiment (despite Dave Sardy production), it also disappointed many long-time fans of the band. The album's biggest (and only) hit was originally supposed to be released under the title Speed Kills . Due to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , it was renamed The People That We Love . The album cover was also redesigned as it showed an airplane. The People That We Love is also part of the soundtrack of the racing game Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 .

2011: The Sea of Memories

10 years after their last studio album and after their reunification, the fifth studio album by Bush was created with Bob Rock as producer. The album and the single The Sound of Winter were quite successful internationally, including number 18 in the USA, but commercially lagged behind their earlier successes. In their English homeland, they did not make it into the charts.

2014: Man on the Run

With Nick Raskulinecz a Grammy winner was won as producer, together with Jay Baumgardner, who had great success with Papa Roach , among others . The album relies heavily on electronic elements . Overall, the album received mostly negative reviews and was described as mostly "unimaginative" and the songs as "hard to tell apart". In Germany and the USA, Bush's sixth album had its worst positions so far, in many other countries they no longer made it into the charts.
