Page Hamilton (born May 18, 1960 in Portland , Oregon ) is an American rock singer and guitarist . He is best known as the founder and head of the band Helmet .

Life

Originally moved to New York to study jazz at the Manhattan School of Music , he soon became involved in the post-punk / independent scene there in the late 1980s. He played as a guitarist with the Band of Susans , worked for a time with the composer Glenn Branca and finally founded Helmet in 1989. After a total of five album releases and various maxis, Helmet was finally dissolved by him in 1999. Hamilton then worked with various other musicians such as Trent Reznor ( Nine Inch Nails , for the album Fragile ) or Charlie Clouser (also with Nine Inch Nails, joint project Tapeworm ).

In October 2002 he recorded some guitar parts for the band Limp Bizkit during an album production. Together with the German guitar experimentalist Caspar Brötzmann (who accompanied the tour to the Helmet album Meantime with his band Caspar Brötzmann Massaker ), he recorded the album Zulutime . Hamilton experienced special consecration when he was hired by his youth idol David Bowie as tour guitarist for the album Hours .

In 2002 he started a new band with Gandhi . Releases with this band are still pending. In August 2002 the band played their first shows on the US East Coast, in which some Helmet songs were performed. In 2004, Helmet was brought back to life with an almost completely new line-up. In the same year Helmet released the best-of album Unsung: the Best of Helmet 1990-1997 and a new album called Size Matters . Another album, Monochrome, followed in 2006 .

Page Hamilton can be heard in Elliot Goldenthal's film scores for Heat , In Dreams , Titus , The Good Thief and SWAT - Die Spezialeinheit with his electric guitar. He also recorded the soundtrack for Three Seasons .

Hamilton also works as a producer. The first album by Institute - the new band of Gavin Rossdale , the former singer of the British band Bush  - was released on September 19, 2005 on the Interscope label (Helmet's original label).
